United Against Hate Week takes place October 18–24, 2026

Since it first launched in Los Angeles County at the end of 2020, United Against Hate Week (UAHW) has been a call for local civic action to stop hate, discrimination, and implicit biases that negatively impact the diverse communities, neighborhoods, and Southland municipalities.

United Against Hate Week is the premier annual community-mobilization and awareness event organized and promoted by LA vs. Hate, the antihate program and reporting infrastructure launched in 2019 by the LA County Commission on Human Relations.

Since the beginning of LA vs. Hate, SSG has played a crucial, integral role as one of the coordinating entities expanding support services available to individuals and communities confronted by employment and housing discrimination, and social bias and injustice.  These issues found attention through powerful visual aids as murals, posters, buttons and yard signs, and a forum through civic action, and art, educational and community events, which SSG helped to craft, coordinate and promote.

SSG/APAIT Opens Sunset West Interim Housing Site

A concerted expansion of County support services helped to breathe new life and purpose to the former Sunset West Hotel located in an emblematic corridor of Hollywood.  The restored property on Sunset Blvd is now an interim supportive housing facility of 56 private, fully furnished units and the services that will support the people who call Sunset West home.

In partnership with Brilliant Corners and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health,  Special Service for Groups (SSG) and its APAIT division (Access to Prevention, Advocacy, Intervention and Treatment), Sunset West is a “safe place to live with the clinical care, case management, and daily support they need,” stated Dr. Herbert Hatanaka, SSG Executive Director.

Residents will have access to case management, mental health and recovery services, employment assistance, life-skills development, transportation assistance, 24/7 security and residential aide assistance, and other resources designed to help people move from crisis toward stability and greater independence.
