SSG’s homeless/safety net/basic needs programs offer a variety of services designed to meet the client’s immediate need for food and shelter, while also identifying and strengthening individual and family resources that promote greater self-sufficiency and long-term stability.

ASIAN PACIFIC COUNSELING & TREATMENT CENTERS (APCTC)
Asian Pacific Counseling & Treatment Centers was established in 1977 as the first mental health program of Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health specifically developed to meet the unique needs of Asian Pacific immigrants and refugees who were in need of a wide range of mental health services. In 1990, APCTC made a major transition through privatization to become a county-contract agency under Special Service for Groups. APCTC provides culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health services. APCTC specializes in providing services to Asian and Pacific Islander groups such as: Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao, and Thai, as well as individuals and families from other ethnic groups.

BENEFITS ASSISTANCE CLIENTS URBAN PROJECT (BACUP)
Benefits Assistance Clients Urban Project provides services that promote self-sufficiency and wellness for mental health consumers.

  • Application assistance for Social Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits
  • LIFE Center – client run wellness center
  • Emergency food vouchers

GREATER WEST HOLLYWOOD FOOD COALITION (GWHFC)
The Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition’s main goal is to alleviate hunger by providing hot meals every night (365 nights a year); and to provide a starting point for stabilizing homeless and at-risk clients. The program offers a range of supportive services including medical screening, legal services, and assistance to those who are ready to move into permanent housing. Services are available to anyone in need.

HOMELESS OUTREACH PROGRAM/INTEGRATED CARE SYSTEM (HOPICS)
Homeless Outreach Program Integrated Care System offers an integrated approach to addressing mental health issues, substance abuse treatment, reentry needs and homeless and housing assistance. HOPICS is the designated Community Assessment Service Center for LA County SPA 6 and the South Central Homeless Drop-In Center. Services are provided to individuals and families in South Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

HURTING AND HUNGRY PROJECT (H&H)
The Hurting & Hungry Project serves low-income families and individuals in South Los Angeles by addressing urgent basic needs and alleviating hunger.

Services Offered

  • Distribution of bagged groceries
  • Hot meals and brown-bag lunches served
  • Referrals to community resources
  • Distribution of donated items such as clothing, blankets and shoes
  • Limited assistance with benefits screening
